Jana Woodson currently serves as the department's Deputy Athletic Director for External Operations, a role she was elevated to in the spring of 2021. She joined the staff in April 2017.

Since joining the staff, Woodson has played a key role in tripling the department's licensing revenue. In addition, Tulane's ticket sales saw a 43 percent jump in group ticketing prior to the COVID-19 pandemic under her direction.

In her role, Woodson oversees all external units, including development, marketing, ticket services, strategic communications, creative services, broadcasting and the Learfield IMG partnership. She will also serve as the sport administrator for bowling as well as men's and women's tennis.

Woodson previously served two-plus years at Rice University where she was associate athletics director for marketing since August of 2014. She oversaw the Owls’ marketing, branding and video departments. Collaborating the sales and marketing teams, Rice produced a 32-percent increase in season ticket revenue across all sports from 2015 to 2016. With the help of her staffs, the athletics department generated increases of 82 percent in ticket scans, 104 percent in student attendance, 46 percent in tickets sold and 67 percent in revenue from the 2013-14 to 2014-15 men’s basketball seasons.

From July of 2006 to 2014, Woodson served as assistant athletics director for marketing and fan development at the University of Richmond. There, she provided oversight of marketing and promotions for the Spiders’ 16 sports, as well as operations of the ticket office and spirit squads. Woodson helped produce a 54-percent increase in ticket revenue in 2011, with a 72-percent increase in football ticket revenue over a three-year span.

Prior to her time at Richmond, she worked at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she began as a promotions coordinator in 2001, earning promotions to director of marketing and senior director of marketing and promotions.

Woodson is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and the National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletics Administrators (NACWAA).

A native of Coffeyville, Kansas, Woodson earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management from the University of Kansas in 2001 before completing her MBA at UMKC in 2003. She is married to her husband, Mike.
